The website was originally designed to promote the book Behold Aherlow by Michael Lynch. In addition to promoting the book, it now serves as an archive of the other publications and achievements by Michael. Before becoming a local historian, he was involved with many community and voluntary organisations. In his role as the bank manager in Tipperary Town, he was able to help many small business, farmers and individuals – his personal approach was a different kind of banking to the automated services we have today.  He was a great believer in the power of local communities and local people to work together for the common good. He worked on many local and national community initiatives, culminating in his appointment as president of Muintir Na Tire in the 1980s.

Besides being a digital archive of his work, this site should prove useful for those researching;
– Glen of Aherlow history
– Tipperary history (War of Independence)
– Muintir Na Tire
– Community Development in Ireland
– EU European community/rural development policies

It is impossible to talk about Michael career and achievements without talking about Betty, his wife. Together they made a formidable team. A talented musician and author in her own right, Betty was a major creative influence in Michael’s work. They supported each other in their various community and voluntary endeavors in Tipperary and beyond. Michael sadly passed away in January 2012.
